Berg Rules Updated: (2016-04-13)
For 2016 all paddlers must be A-grade and will also have to qualify as follows:
- Top 50 finishers of the Berg for 2014/2015 will automatically qualify
- Paddlers who have completed a K1 2015 Fish, K1 2015 Vaal or K1 2015 50 Miler and/or any 2 days of official K1 A or B-grade racing in 2016 in under 160% of the winners time
- For those who have not qualified as above – application must be made in writing firstname.lastname@example.org well ahead of the entry closing date and a review of 2015/2016 results will be done in order to gauge competency. The decision will be made by the Western Cape Canoe Union Technical Race Committee and communicated to the paddler. This decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the decision.
- For those not qualifying there is the option of the Berg Relay which is a relay format of the race with the daily distances being shared between 2 or 3 paddlers. See relay rules for more info on the relay.
Daily cut-off times will also be strictly adhered to and paddlers not making the daily cutoff times will be disqualified and removed from the water at the cutoff for safety reasons. These paddlers will be able to continue racing in the Berg Relay format upon application in writing to the organisers/officials by 6pm on the day of disqualification, and if there is another paddler/s in the same situation willing to do this with them.
Further information will be available on the official Berg website, www.berg.org.za.
